MUMMENSCHANZ RE:PLAY at the New Victory Theater

Do you remember MUMMENSCHANZ the theatrical event of the 70’s? I sure do.  The original commercials made such an impression on me I can actually remember the vivid details after all of these years. Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to see the original production which still bothers me to this day! For those of you not familiar with MUMMENSCHANZ read on to discover a theatrical event like no other.

**Disclosure- I was provided two tickets to MUMMENSCHANZ in order to review the production.  All opinions are my own and truthful.

What exactly is MUMMENSCHANZ?

A Broadway production without dialogue, music or set? This is an evening with MUMMENSCHANZ. The skilled cast of five perform physical feats with visual props that make “RE:PLAY” a fun and unique event for audiences of all ages.

MUMMENSCHANZ began developing their non-verbal theatrical act in 1972.  Audiences across the world admire and easily understand the purely visual performances. Imagine shapes and objects moving against a black background while creating stunning and playful scenes. Floriana Frasetto, one of MUMMENSCHANZ’s original three creators, still performs with the group.  The talented Christa Barret, Kevin Blaser, Sara Francesca Hermann and Oliver Pfulg round out the mime troupe. Although you cannot see their faces, their emotions come to life through beautiful movement.

MUMMENSCHANZ RE:PLAY Review:

Experiencing MUMMEMSCHANZ for the first time was a thrill for me.  I loved the entire vibe starting with the warm welcome every audience member receives at the beautiful non-profit New Victory Theater.

Roughly two dozen of MUMMENSCHANZ’s classic sketches are performed specifically for “RE: PLAY” at New Victory Theater.  The troupe arranged and composed the sketches into a new mix especially for the New York audience.

The quirky and humorous production immediately established a connection with the audience. The children particularly enjoyed the enchanting antics on stage. I was so impressed by the ease at which they all caught on to the skits, The young crowd laughed, cheered and eagerly clapped at all the right moments. The stand out skit of the evening featured cell phone and tablet using mimes. The youngsters in the audience howled with laughter and recognition as the shapes took a few selfie taking stances. Unfortunately my son was sick the evening of the performance.  I will have to bring him back to experience the magic for himself.

Because MUMMENSCHANZ stimulates the imagination, for one special hour everyone in the audience became a kid again. The skits cross generations and bring everyone together in a tech free, peaceful hour of innocent fun. If you will be in New York City In November head on over to the New Victory Theater and have some fun.

From The New Victory Theater:

A playful production of timeless vignettes, RE:PLAY is as much about what you don’t see as what you delightfully do!
