Wimbledon

It’s Wednesday and I’m headed for Wimbledon.

Well, not really! Wimbledon is in England and I’m not out for summer break yet.  I’ll get there one day, but for now I’ll have to stick to learning Tennis in NYC.

One of the best things about living in NYC is that you have access to lessons in just about anything.  All it takes to get started is s a little imagination and some good old-fashioned fishing around!

I was goofing around with my cousin Jack last week swinging a tennis racket and I thought it might be fun to actually know what I was doing.  Strangely enough, my Aunt Lisa had just started researching kid friendly spots to play tennis.  She came up with something big! There are FREE tennis classes for kids all over the city in the summer!

Here’s the link to the City Parks Foundation Tennis lessons.  Kids 6-16 can participate.  The lessons are held in all 5 boroughs and no one is turned away.  If you live in Westchester, check out Free Tennis Day’s at Yonkers Tennis Center.

If you are interested in exploring tennis but don’t live in NYC, a good place to start your search is the Try Tennis Page of the USTA website.

Back to Wimbledon.

Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament in the world.  It started in London in 1877.  The tournament takes place over two weeks starting late June into July.  Get out to the court stat!  If you start practicing your backhand and put your mind to it you may qualify for the big tourney in about ten years!
