Device Free Dinners Are A Healthy Choice For Families

Do you enjoy Device Free Dinners with your family?  Much to our son’s dismay we insist upon them.

#DeviceFreeDinner

Research shows one-third of kids age 0–8 frequently use mobile devices.  Did you know that taking a break from devices is proven to have positive benefits for kids? Dinner time is the perfect time to go without electronics because seventy percent of families eat dinner together five or more times a week.

**According to Common Sense Media,

The Benefits of a Device Free Family Dinner include:

  • Better nutrition- because we eat more consciously when we are present in the moment
  • Better communication- because we share more about our day in conversation at an engaged dinner table.
  • Increased focus at home
  • Fewer problems at school

In honor of the 50th Anniversary of Sesame Street, Common Sense Media and Sesame Workshop have collaborated on a Device Free Dinner PSA.  The fun PSA features the Sesame Street characters enjoying device free family dinner time. The key takeaway of the campaign is one that most will  agree on: devices and dinner are not a healthy mix. The Sesame Street characters deliver the message in a way that will engage both children and parents. The initiative also encourages families to make the most of their time together.

The Device Free Dinner PSA:

Common Sense is the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to helping kids and families thrive in a world of media and technology. Common Sense’s award-winning Device-Free Dinner campaign is now in its third year.  Prior campaigns featured Will Ferrell.

The Common Sense and Sesame Street PSA will run nationally in both English and Spanish.
