Family Fun at South Street Seaport Museum
Looking for some family fun in the city this mid winter break? The South Street Seaport Museum is where all the action is.
If you are staying home with the kids for the NYC public schools break, the South Street Seaport Museum has your staycation covered. From February 22–26, 2023 the Museum has extended hours full of special family activities.
Family Fun At South Street Seaport Museum:
Family Activities; Crew and Cargo:
Crew and Cargo is a series of 45-minute activities at 10am (ages 5-9) 11am (ages 8-12) daily. Families are
invited on board the 1885 tall ship Wavertree to participate in hands-on activities that
explore the fascinating world of 19th century trans-Atlantic sailors. Kids ages 5-12 are invited to haul on ropes to raise the sail, and walk the capstan
‘round, while learning how sailors slept, ate, worked, and played.

Historic Ship Tours:
Guided tours of the 1885 tall ship Wavertree, and the 1908 lightship Ambrose will leave
from 12 Fulton Street throughout the special Mid-Winter Recess hours. While space on
Wavertree tours is offered on a first-come first-served basis, registration is encouraged
to guarantee your space for tours of Ambrose.

Current exhibitions tell the story of how the Seaport and South Street shaped New York. Learn how First Class and Third Class passengers traveled aboard early 20th century ocean liners.
Seaport Discovery Room:
Children ages 2–7 are sure to relish the engaging Seaport Discovery Room. It features larger-than-life maritime themed murals that bring families into the beloved books of Eric Carle.
