Four Ways To Give Your Child Extra Support In School
School can be tough especially after a year and a half of remote learning. If you are worried that your child is struggling with certain subjects read on for four ways to give your child the extra study support they may need.
We all want our children to do well in school but It’s important to understand that no child is going to be great in every subject. Everyone has their weak and strong subjects. Once you understand this as a parent, you will be able to provide key support in needed areas. Let’s look at some of the ways that you can do this.
Work With Your Teachers
Speak with your child’s teachers about extra help. Many teachers offer help before or after school and even have older students work with the younger grades. They can help ensure that your child does gain the extra coaching that they need within the school setting to succeed and improve. My son goes to his school’s “math center” twice a week where a 10th grader helps him with his algebra and it helps tremendously.
Tutoring
Tutoring is an excellent option for added support with school work. A good tutor can be a trained professional or an even an older, advanced student. Tutors can be very expensive so you will have to factor cost in when making your decision, Make sure to do your research in order to find someone with the right qualifications. They will provide your child with the support they need as well as guarantee better grades if your child puts the work in.
Supplemental Teaching At Home
If you prefer to self tutor your kids and supplement their learning at home you will need the right materials. The good news is that there are learning supplements like these free 1st grade writing worksheets readily available online.
New Study Methods
You may also want to think about exploring different study methods than you have used in the past. Children learn in many ways and the traditional classroom setting may not be optimal for your child.
A few options that work for many are:
- utilize index cards and make flash cards to study with
- try some audio learning materials
- online learning tools such as Khan Academy
Hopefully one of these four options will help your child succeed in school. As mentioned, no child is going to excel in every subject. Providing the right boost in key areas will help your child gain confidence. Tackling the subjects that challenge them the most with the proper tools is very empowering. Just make sure that you are not eating into your child’s down time too much. They need the right level of time away from their studies, to unwind, clear their minds and relax just like us adults.
