Secondhand Dogs Book Review
Secondhand Dogs by Carolyn Crimi is a sweet tale that is full of life lessons for all. Whether your family has a “FUR-ever” companion or just loves to admire neighborhood pups from afar this book will touch your hearts.
Secondhand Dogs Publisher Synopsis:
Miss Lottie’s home is for second chances. She adopted Gus, Roo, Tank, and Moon Pie, rescuing each member of the pack! She turned them into a family including her cat Ghost and her helper Quinn. The future of the pack is threatened when a new dog, Decker, arrives and tries to hoard Miss Lottie’s heart and home.
At first, Gus, the insecure pack leader, only notices little things. Tiny Moon Pie is kicked out of his bed and Ghost is spooked. Things soon go from bad to worse as Decker’s presence causes disharmony in the group.
When Decker convinces Moon Pie to embark on an impossible journey, Gus must gather his courage, rally his splintered pack, and bring the little dog home. The pack must push through many dangers (coyotes!) to find Moon Pie before he gets hurt or has his heart broken.
Secondhand Dogs Spoiler Free Review:
Secondhand Dogs cleverly brings the reader into a tight knit family of rescue dogs. Carolyn Crimi does a fantastic job of bringing the dogs to life while alternating chapters from each dog’s perspective. The pace that the story unfolds is just right. The story progresses with the help of flashbacks to each dog’s former life.
This canine tale stresses that you can discover your greatest strengths along with your place in the world (and your pack!) by being true to yourself. Secohand Dogs is a particularly poignant book at this time in history. Many families across the country have adopted “covid dogs” during the corona virus pandemic. The story of rescue dogs bringing family together holds true more now than ever.
