Tasty Tours NYC Is a Foodie’s Delight

Tasty is the word that comes to mind when you think of New York City food.  After all, NYC is the food capitol of the United States if not the world. With this in mind I have always been hesitant to take a food tour in my city.  Who could possibly show this born and bred New Yorker where and what to eat?  I’ll tell you who…Tasty Tours NYC!

Tasty Tours is a foodie’s delight started by a charming Australian transplant named Ryan Watts. I’ll start by saying if you have any apprehensions about going on a tour you can leave your worries at home. Going into the tour we didn’t know what to expect but Ryan put those feeling at ease immediately. Ryan is easy going, knowledgeable and someone you’ll thoroughly enjoy spending an afternoon with. He mixes tour stops with just the right amount of history, pop culture, trivia and yes…interesting, delicious NYC food.

The Greenwich Village Tour:

Washington Square Park

Tasty Tours offers four unique food tours. We opted to head to NYC’s iconic Greenwich Village to experience the tasty delights that the iconic neighborhood has to offer.

Our group met at 11am at Bagel Bob’s for an orientation of the days events. We bonded over mini everything bagels with a classic schmear of cream cheese and got right to foodie business. The folks at Bob’s make over 100 fresh bagels a day the old-fashioned way! They hand roll, boil and bake delicious, craveable circles of joy. Ryan has found the perfect way to start the 1.5 mile tour… with just the right amount of carbs.

Along the way we were treated to delights from NYC staples Bleecker Street Pizza, Mamoun’s Falafel, The Little Taco House and Pasticceria Rocco. In between stops we explored Washington Square Park, stopped by Taylor Swift’s former digs, pivoted over to our favorite “Friends” building and rested our Manolo’s by Carrie’s stoop.  You know, Carrie from Perry Street?  Yes, Big’s Carrie! (Sex and the City) But it wasn’t all fun and pop culture, we got our history on too,  We visited one of the US National Parks in NYC, the Stone Wall National Monument.

I made some cool new Friends on this tour!

I am not going to give away too many details because what fun would that be for you when you join Ryan for all the good grub?  But I’ll say this, just when you think you can’t eat another bite, Molly’s Cupcakes serves up a sweet finale to “the Village” tour. Molly’s won the first Cupcake Wars back in 2009.  I sampled the red velvet mini cupcake and I promised myself I’ll go back and try the winning Peach Cobbler cupcake before the year is over.

Did We Love Our Tasty Tour?

At the end of the tour Ryan asked for opinions on our favorite bites of the day  My son answered with a resounding number one for The Little Taco House. He’s ready to go back and try the entire menu.  I had a harder time deciding on my favorite.  It’s like the memes you see all over social media “if you had to give up one food forever, which would it be?” How do you decide between bagelsl, pizza, tacos or falafels?  What’s better a cannoli or a cupcake? That’s an impossible choice so I might have to take another tour just to be sure.

Nonna Maria Pizza- I’ve got to get back to try the Sicilian…YUM!

A special thank you to Ryan Wells for inviting us to experience our city in a way we’d never considered before.
