Netflix is known for their innovative television series. I was excited to hear that they were releasing a new live action family holiday film. After getting a sneak preview of The Christmas Chronicles I am sure it is going to be an instant holiday classic.

Kurt’s Santa is a truly modern, fun take on Santa!  I confess I have always had a crush on Kurt Russell and trust me when I say there has honestly never been a more handsome Santa on-screen!  Take a peek for yourself:

The Christmas Chronicles is a wishful, hilarious, family festive adventure. This is our first live action family film with a well established director and big profile actor in Kurt Russell. From producer Chris Columbus (“Home Alone”, “Harry Potter”) and director Clay Kaytis (“The Angry Birds Movie”), The Christmas Chronicles, tells the story of sister and brother, Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis), whose Christmas Eve plan to catch Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) on camera turns into an unexpected journey that most kids could only dream about. Non Spoiler Review:

The Christmas Chronicles is a modern holiday treat!  It centers around a contemporary family who has had its share of heart-break.  Troubled teen Teddy (Judah Lewis) and his sister Kate (Darby Camp) are struggling to find the Christmas spirit with all that is going on in their lives.  Bored and alone on Christmas Eve they hatch a plan to catch Santa (Kurt Russell) on video in the act of delivering presents. The kids wind up going on the adventure of a life time with Santa!

Without spoiling anything else, the film is full of action, adventure and a little mischief.  There is fun cameos, a few easter eggs (you never know what someone is watching on tv in the background sharp-eyed Netflix fans) and elves. I loved Santa’s elves! Their scenes are show stealers! Look out for the scene where Kate goes to find the elves.  It is pure magic!

The Verdict:

We BELIEVE that The Christmas Chronicles is going to be a new holiday classic.  It is heartwarming and delivers a touching message about family and the magic of the holidays without being sappy. The kids will find it fun and fast paced. My son already wants to watch it again. Parents will relish in the message of believing in yourself.  Did I mention that it has the most handsome Santa ever?
