It’s time to “Believe in Wonder!” because Wonder Woman is turning 80.

**Article updated to include additions to the year long campaign celebrating Diana of Themyscira. The celebration includes commemorative books, art, fashion and more. The festivities will culminate on Wonder Woman Day Oct. 21st with the induction of Wonder Woman into the Comic-Con Museum’s Character Hall of Fame.

It’s hard to believe Wonder Woman is 80. I feel like we were just celebrating her 75th birthday. I know one thing for sure, the fun merchandise is abundant and fans are going to love it all.

The History of Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman first appeared in All Star Comics #8 on October 21,1941. This story was meant to test her appeal at a time when female super heroes were rare. Wonder Woman began headlining her own standalone titles less than a year later.

Created by psychologist William Moulton Marston, Wonder Woman was conceived as a Super Hero who uses wisdom and compassion to triumph over evil. Born and raised on Themyscira, Diana is the immortal daughter of the Amazon Queen Hippolyta. She leaves her paradise island home to become a champion for justice and equality in the land of mortals. From her hit 1970’s television series to her groundbreaking 2017 film Wonder Woman is a force to be reckoned with.
