Kid Congeniality’s Review:

Fans of Alyssa Milano are going to love her in Brazen.  Alyssa plays savvy mystery novelist Grace McCabe. After a demanding book tour, Grace visits her sister Kathleen. Very shortly after Grace arrives, she hooks up with the neighbor. Kathleen is suddenly murdered and Grace quickly involves herself in the investigation to hunt down the serial killer.

Part murder mystery, part romance this screen adaptation stays true to the Nora Roberts thriller. In the end spunky Grace helps solve the crime but does she get the man? No spoilers here, you’ll have to watch for yourself.

Milano’s strong screen presence is the bright spot in the film. While some of the other acting is shaky and the plot is quite thin Milano shows up!  While it’s not Shakespeare and you’ll likely guess the killer, Brazen is surprisingly entertaining in a kitschy kind of way. Grab a glass of wine, ignore the holes in the plot and enjoy Alyssa because it’s refreshing to see a take charge female character show everyone Who’s The Boss!

Exclusives From Alyssa:

I was able to interview Alyssa at a virtual press junket for Brazen. During the round table Alyssa gave us many insights into the prep work for this film. Besides reading the original book in addition to the screen play, Alyssa consulted with Nora Roberts for personal insight into the Grace character. “I wanted to be true to Nora’s vision, not only because I think that’s respectful, but also because I know how many people love her books”. Being a huge True Crime fan, Alyssa felt connected to Grace. I asked her about the emotional impact playing the sister of a murder victim. Thanks to Covid protocols, Alyssa was quarantined in Canada for a few weeks before filming could begin. She was on set 12-14 hour days for 3 months filming. Besides keeping mindful, Alyssa also worked with an Intimacy Coordinator on set. This helped Alyssa leave Grace’s baggage on set.
