Hispanic Heritage Month Kicks Off With Ballet Hispanico

Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15th and is celebrated until October 15th,  As usual, Ballet Hispánico is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with flair. The nation’s largest Latinx dance organization is honoring Hispanic culture with exuberant celebrations throughout the month.

This year’s roster of entertaining programming will delight audiences in both the United States and Canada. Ballet Hispánico will host Celebración Latina in New York City, so if you are in the area read on to see how you can participate in the fun.

Ballet Hispánico Events:

  • Touring in US and Canada. Ballet Hispánico’s professional Company brings the beauty of dance and awareness of Latinx culture to our northern neighbors with touring starting in Canada. The tour begins in mid-September and continues throughout October to Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Connecticut. It returns to the tri-state area in October.   • Community Celebration. This year’s community celebration, Celebración Latina, will take place on Sunday, October 15, from 1:00pm-5:00pm. The excitement will take place in the heart of the Upper West side at W. 89th Street between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues, outside of Ballet’s headquarters. You can enjoy live music, dancing and food from local vendors on the street and, inside the headquarters, enjoy performances by the professional Company and students from the School of Dance, free dance classes and much more!

 

  • Diálogos. Ballet Hispánico’s signature conversation series, exploring the interconnections of the arts, social justice, and Latinx cultures, returns with Stonewall Diálogos: Creating Safe Spaces celebrating LGBTQIA+ Latinx heritage. This annual event will take place on Tuesday, September 19 at the Stonewall Inn, 53 Christopher Street, at 5:30pm.

Learn Latinx Dance:

The Ballet Hispanico School of Dance is one of America’s Cultural Treasures. It serves over 1,000 students annually. The school brings dance and Latinx culture to students of all ages, abilities and socioeconomic backgrounds. Adult classes are available in Ballet Fitness, Flamenco, Hip Hop, and Salsa and more. The school offers generous scholarships and support to students in need.
