Spark Your Imagination With New Victory Arts Break

New Victory Theater is ready to spark your children’s imaginations with a free arts break!

New Victory was one of the first cultural institutions to cancel upcoming productions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It breaks our hearts to see the theater closed and productions halted, however the talented New 42 staff was quick to jump into action. The group has created a series of free, homeschool arts programs especially for their favorite patrons, the kids.

Through a new and innovative initiative called New Victory Arts Break, New Victory Theater is inspiring families to learn performing arts skills from the comfort of their own home. The free online series explores a different art form each week. The initiative invites families to incorporate the arts into their homeschool learning through a series of imaginative video instructions.

“Through New Victory Arts Break, we hope families connect with the performing arts and with each other, sparking their imaginations and seeing the spaces they live in differently,” says Russell Granet, President & CEO of New 42, the nonprofit that operates New Victory. New Victory Arts Break launched with Percussion as the first of ten weeks.

Take a look at the weekly line-up and make sure to share these fabulous resources for all of the kids to enjoy!

New Victory Arts Break Schedule:

  • Percussion Week: Learn how to do body percussion with no drums needed.
  • Just Move! Week: Viewers begin with some stretching before diving into dance-centric activities. You can make a dance inspired by your name as well as create choreography with family.
  • Puppetry Week: Create your very own puppet with household items.  Imagine the world your show would live in – how does your character move, who else is in this world? Put on a puppet show written and produced by you.
  • Something Magical Week: Launches April 6th- There is a magician in all of us. Take the magician’s code and start your journey into your new magical profession with everyday household items. Amaze your family and impress your friends!
  • Juggling Week: Launches April 13th- Don’t have juggling balls? No problem! We can teach you basic juggling skills using things around your home. Get your skills down and by the end of the week you can perform your very own juggling act in a circus.

The New Victory Theater is one of my family’s favorite spots in New York City. The New Victory holds a special place in New York City history and is also a center of cultural life for New York City kids. We can’t wait for COVID-19 to take a hike because we can’t wait to get back to one of our happy places.
