Amid monster attacks and newly discovered powers, Percy is unprepared to find out his true lineage. He is a son of Poseidon and because of this his life will change forever. Percy must go on a quest to find Zeus’ lightning bolt in order to prevent a war between the Greek gods. A prophesy hails that he will be betrayed by a friend and fail in his quest, but Percy must try with his new camp half-blood friends (or are they?) at his side.

Review:

Percy Jackson fans are going to love this interpretation of Rick Riordan’s Best Selling series. My tween son was mesmerized from Chris McCarrell’s first note. The music is hip, upbeat and the lyrics are catchy as well as easy to follow. The dialogue is witty and had everyone laughing. I especially loved the minimal yet creative set. It took the audience from the Museum of Natural history, through New Jersey, out West and on to Hades and Olympus with vivid imagination. The production does a lot with a small cast. The Cast is the full original company of the 2019 tour and they are on fire as a group! 7 actors play 47 characters cleverly while not confusing the audience. Special shout out to Jorrel Javier (Grover and Mr. D.) who stole every scene he was in.

This production of The Lightning Thief is a clever mash up of tween angst and Greek myths.  The music is hip and the stage effects are subtle yet brilliant. The modern-day humor is the perfect bow that wraps up this gift from the gods to contemporary audiences.

A second and third series of five books each followed. which have sold more than 175 million copies worldwide in 42 languages to date.
