The Little Owl & The Big Tree- A Christmas Story

“The Little Owl & The Big Tree” is a Christmas story as big hearted as the city it takes place in.

“The Little Owl & the Big Tree” by Jonah Winter and Jeanette Winter is based on true events that captivated New York City and made national news in the winter of 2020. This heartfelt story details the actual event of a Christmas tree transported from Oneonta, New York to Manhattan ‘s Rockefeller Center with a small stow away passenger inside.

Do you remember where you were on November 12, 2020? Most likely hunkered down in your home. Most of the world was responsibly isolating and upset to be missing the upcoming holidays with extended family. But on that very same day a Northern Saw-whet Owl sitting quietly in her tree was in for the thrill ride of her little life.

Eric Pauze (head gardener) is in charge of picking the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.  His 2020 pick was destined to be special because New York City desperately needed a bright light to shine for a world stuck in dark times. The crew chopped down the enormous tree, loaded it onto their truck and drove 170 miles with the precious cargo.  The cargo was definitely more precious than they knew.

Surprise…There’s A Little Owl In The Big Tree:

The tree arrived in the city on November 14th. Two days later a worker discovers the frightened little owl. Nursed back to health by caring folks from the Ravensbeard Wildlife she was given a perfect name worthy of an a-list  New York City celebrity. Her tale lifted the spirits of an entire city!  When folks heard of the little owl and her big adventure everyone wanted to adopt her! But she is back in nature where she belongs.  She is everyone’s owl now and I like to think of her as a beacon of hope for all.

Kids will love this sweet story and appreciate the happy ending.  It’s a well told holiday tale of good-will to all creatures big as well as  small.  Warmly illustrated, the book is one to display on your book shelf for years to come. If you are looking for a true holiday tale that children will enjoy pick up “The Little Owl & the Big Tree”. The tale is sure to melt the heart of even the biggest grinch.
