Wollman Rink Opening Day Free Skate

Wollman Rink is celebrating its second season under new management with special opening day festivities. Come down to Central Park on October 23, 2022 for a day of skating, performances, chef demos, mini-lessons and more!

The day is free for visitors, including skate rentals. Ice Theatre of New York  will perform “Of Water and Ice” at 10am. Eight more exciting hours of fun are scheduled to welcome New Yorkers back to the ice including free “learn2skate” clinics.

The day will also feature performances by Wollman Rink partners, including Figure Skating in Harlem, Wollman Rink Academy, and Adaptive Sled Hockey. ITNY Choreographer/Olympian Kaitlyn Weaver, the Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team, Olympians Jake Mao and Camden Pulkinen, members of the Skating Club of New York, and Team USA hockey players.


Wollman Rink Opening Day Schedule:

  • 9:30 AM – Cardinal Spellman High School Marching Band opens the gates.
  • 9:45 AM – Zamboni and mural art reveal (students from High School of Art and Design and The Art Students League of New York)
  • 10:00 AM – Performances by Ice Theatre of New York, Figure Skating in Harlem, Jake Mao  (Team USA member).
  • 10:15 AM – Public Free Skate time! Learn to Skate USA Skate Fest with free clinics! Free hot cocoa samples and snacks!
  • 10:30 AM – Ice Sculpture carving by Ice Miracles on the Overlook.
  • 11:00 AM – Cambodian cooking demonstration by Chef Chin​chakriya Un.
  • 12:00 PM – On-ice performance by choreographers and skate instructors behind the cast of Broadway’s Kimberly Akimbo.
  • 2:00 PM – On-ice performances by Skyliners, Ice Theatre of New York and Camden Pulkinen, current Team USA member.
  • 3:00-6:00 PM – New York DJ Rob Dinero, Hot Toddy Tent bar opens
  • 6:00 PM – Public Free Skate Concludes.
  • 7:00-9:00 PM – Ticketed event: Equinox Sound Bath Skating Meditation.

Wollman Rink’s popular Hot Toddy Tent will also return with its signature beverage available for purchase with a valid ID. Enjoy a toddy while admiring beautiful ice sculptures from Ice Miracles and listening to DG DJ Rob Dinero spin tunes.

Ending the day, Equinox brings back its ticketed Sound Bath event. This meditative skating experience guides participants in breathwork and moving meditation while bathed in sounds of singing bowls, gongs, and chimes.
