Central Park Has A New Fall Foliage Map

Central Park boasts an amazing array of colors in the fall. The Central Park Conservancy has unveiled an interactive Peak Fall Foliage map to inform visitors of the best locations to enjoy this vibrant time in the park.

Every fall, New Yorker’s head upstate to admire the yearly foliage. What many don’t realize is that you can enjoy autumn’s crown jewels right here in NYC. Every fall approximately 18,000 trees across Central Park’s 843 acres reach a beautiful peak color. The Conservancy’s new map will provide real-time information for eight locations around the park provided by Central Park’s arborists. The map explains when to visit, and also gives a guide of the different tree types including red maples and black cherries.

  2. Conservatory Garden
  3. The Pool
  4. North Meadow
  5. Reservoir
  6. The Ramble
  7. The Mall & Literary Walk
  8. Hallett Nature Sanctuary

As a living work of art, Central Park is constantly changing — especially in the autumn,” the Conservancy says. “Due to variations in temperature and light, the leaves in different parts of the Park (sometimes referred to as ‘microclimates’) undergo their seasonal change at different times.”

The city’s average fall “peak” is in late October through mid-November.  Make sure you don’t miss out on any fall magic this year and use the map to plan your visit.
